Dead Bunny Catnip Toy

I always buy or make 2 new cat toys so that my cats don't get jealous.   After completing a lizard toy, I decided to make a bunny toy.

Oh no!  My cactus killed a bunny!

This bunny is filled with organic catnip as well.

Medium weight yarn and 3.75mm hook were used for this project.  If you can't stand anything dead, use different color yarn or materials for its eyes and mouth.


Head and body are connected to minimize wear and tear.  I can see my cats being very rough with a catnip toy.

Head & Body:

R1: a magic ring with 6sc (6)

R2: Increase every sc (12)

R3: *Sc 1, increase in next sc, *repeat 5 times (18)

R4: *Sc 2, increase in next sc, *repeat 5 times (24)

R5-7: Sc around (24)

R8: *Sc 2, decrease 2 sc together, *repeat 5 times (18)

Stuff the head with catnip-filled cloth pouch (see Mouse) or fiber filler (or both).

R9: *Sc 1, decrease 2 sc together, *repeat 5 times(12)

R10: Sc around (12)
R11: *Sc 1, increase in next sc, *repeat 5 times (18)

R12-15: Sc around (18)

R16: *Sc 8, increase in next sc, *repeat (20)

R17-18: Sc around (20)
R19: *Decrease 2 sc together, sc 8, *repeat (18)
Stuff the head with catnip-filled cloth pouch and/or fiber filler.
R20: *Sc 1, decrease 2 sc together, *repeat 5 times(12)
R21: Decrease every 2 sc together (6)
Keep long enough end to fill any holes with and cut off the rest of the yarn.  Sew any openings using a knitting needle.


Ear (make 2):

R1: a magic ring with 4sc (4)

R2: *Sc 1, increase in next sc, *repeat (6)

R3: *Sc 1, increase in next sc, *repeat twice (9)

R4-6: Sc around (9)

R7: *Sc 1, decrease 2 sc together,*repeat twice (6)

R8: Sc around (6)

Leave enough yarn to sew with and cut off the rest.  Fasten off.

Arm (make 2):

R1: a magic ring with 6sc (6)

R2-6: Sc around (6)

Leave enough yarn to sew with and cut off the rest.  Fasten off.

Leg (make 2):

R1: a magic ring with 6sc (6)

R2: *Sc 2, increase in next sc, *repeat (8)

R3:-6: Sc around (8)

Leave enough yarn to sew with and cut off the rest.  Fasten off.

Tail:

R1: a magic ring with 6sc (6)

R2: Sc around (6)

R3: *Sc 1, decrease 2 sc together,*repeat (4)

Leave enough yarn to sew with and cut off the rest.  Fasten off.

Assembly:

1. Give the bunny any 'dead' or 'alive' face of your choice.

2. Sew ears on the head.  I like them on the center with outside of the ears angled toward its face.

3. Sew on arms, legs and tail.

4. Allow your cat to attack the bunny!
